Koureas Michalis
Assistant ProfessorDr. Michalis Koureas is an Assistant Professor of Instrumental Chemical Analysis and Food Safety, in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Thessaly. His research focuses on the application of chromatographic and spectrometric techniques, including GC-MS, LC-MS and FTIR, for the detection and quantification of pollutants, metabolites and pesticide residues in environmental, biological and food matrices. He also works on the use of spectroscopic techniques and chemometric models for quality assessment, authenticity confirmation and adulteration detection in food and dairy products. He has published 45 peer-reviewed scientific articles, has extensive experience in European and national research projects, and has participated in research activities related to public health, human biomonitoring, environmental epidemiology, wastewater epidemiology and the health impacts of climate change. His work combines analytical chemistry, food safety and public health, aiming to develop reliable methodologies for assessing exposure to chemical hazards and supporting evidence-based interventions for the protection of population health.
