Professional Accreditation of Graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

The graduates of the Department are qualified to work as Nutritionists - Dietitians in hospitals and the healthcare sector, in food industry, in community health services, or they are entitled to practice the profession of Nutritionist – Dietitian in their own private office. Furthermore, for students admitted up to and including the academic year 2026-2027*, the curriculum offers them the opportunity to complete a cycle of courses and to obtain the Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence. This allows them to be employed as teachers in public education (Category PE 88.04 Nutrition). The graduates of the Department can obtain the license to practice their profession from the Public Health Directorates of the Regions Greece. For employment in the public sector, graduates, as holders of a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, are integrated into the PE Dietetics category/specialty, according to the updated Qualification-Classification List (Presidential Decree 85/2022, Government Gazette A' 232).

For graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of the University of Thessaly, the professional rights are regulated by Presidential Decrees 78/1989 (A' 36) and 133/2014 (A' 213), in accordance with the provisions of Article 32 of Law 4999/2022 (Government Gazette A' 225). The following links describe the procedure that the graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics must follow to issue a professional license as dietitians - nutritionists, as well as for those interested in establishing/operating a licensed dietetics office.

* For students admitted to the Department up until the academic year 2026-2027, certification of pedagogical and teaching competence may be granted, in accordance with case (a) of par. 4 of Article 54 of Law 4589/2019 (Government Gazette A' 13) and par. 3 of Article 88 of Law 5291/2026 (Government Gazette A' 49).
