Kouvari Matina
External Department Instructor Academic Year 2024-2025Dr Matina KOUVARI (she/her/hers) is a Dietician – Nutritionist and Epidemiologist specialized in topics related with nutrition and metabolism as well as public health. Dr Kouvari holds a BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics from Harokopio University of Athens (HUA), where she graduated 1st in class and an MSc (hons) in Applied Nutrition and Dietetics - Clinical Nutrition. In 2020, she received her PhD thesis from HUA in the role of gender in primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention. Dr Kouvari has completed two postdoctoral research programs. After her thesis, she implemented an 18-month post-doctoral research project on nutrition, metabolic syndrome and cognition in University of Canberra. Within the last year she implemented her 12-month postdoctoral research fellow program in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Division of Endocrinology of Harvard Medical School in metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease with specialization in metabolomics/proteomics. Since March 2022 she is also occupied as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at University of Canberra. Dr Kouvari has participated in >17 national and EU research projects (H2020, Erasmus+, EU4Health, etc.). Dr Kouvari has published >85 original research papers in international journals, as well as she has >130 scientific presentations and six invited lectures in international and national congresses. Dr Kouvari is Associate Editor in 1 peer-reviewed international journal, Guest Editor in 6 Special Issues and Reviewer in >30 journals in the field of nutrition and dietetics. In December 2023, she has been elected as Vice President of the Working Group of Epidemiology and Prevention of Atherosclerosis of the Hellenic Society of Atherosclerosis. For her academic performance, she has received 5 scholarships and 11 awards.
